How To Conquer Powerful Hindrances To Speed Reading, The Readers Type Factor!

Author : Joe Okoro
All the guides on speed reading emphasises that for one to achieve a good speed reading rate one should be able to master a material in a little time span. Implying that proper understanding of a material is necessary at that given time that the material is covered. However, the truth of the matter is that to be able to read as fast as you would like, there are some limiting factors that are inherent in every person which can make your speed reading exercise slow. While there is truth in the information presented in some speed reading guides about the various strategies of speed reading, these inherent factors can greatly affect anyone from successfully using those strategies or techniques. What are these inherent factors? These factors can be used to classify the types of speed readers we have namely motor readers, sight readers, and auditory readers. We are going to consider each of them one by one.Motor reader: Motor readers are those who use one or more parts of their body for movement while reading. Parts such as the mouth, hand, leg, nose, ears and so on can be engaged while they are reading. Why this is a problem is because while this type of people are trying to speed read, if any of these parts is engaged such as tapping of the leg on the floor, the subconscious mind tend to focus on the tapping, thus limiting the mind or trying to concentrate on two information simultaneously. Evidently since this may not be possible, one action will override the other. Consequently resulting in a slow reading ability.Auditory readers: These types of readers often vocalise what they are reading mentally using mumbling, whispering, and vibration of the vocal cord. They listen to themselves while reading. Though these type of readers seem to do better than the motor reader, but their action of listening and engaging themselves often draw their attention away from the main purpose of their reading, namely speed reading.Sight readers: These types of readers are able to fully focus on the material and grasp the group of words as ideas. They are able to bring to life what they are reading, visualise and fully understand what they are going through. This is because they pay no attention to nothing more than the material. Their whole concentration at every point in time that they read is to focus and thus they are able to accomplish a lot in a little time. There exist no criticism for any of these types of readers because each comes by nature and for a speed reader, once you acknowledge that you have any of these problems, then you will want to work and apply yourself to be a sight reader. Often much practice using advanced speed reading strategies can help you to conquer any of these inherent limitations and this can yield good result eventually.Another common problem among the speed reader is the ability to speadily read instruction manuals. This is because these manuals are written in the language of the specialisation of whatever product the manual is discussing and hence can be confusing at times. The best way to handle this problem is to practice reading it repeatedly and make note of the difficult words you come across, go back to find their meaning. Once you practice reading manuals frequently there will be easy comprehension and fastness as time goes by.However, you should know that whatever you read, your ability to speed read and understand it depends on your interest, which reader type you fall in, and your ability to quickly conquer any limitations you may have on time.Joe Okoro writes about Speed Reading in his free reports.
